According to Dr.C.N.Manjunath, Director of the Institute - This is the only Institution in the Country having Seven (7) Cardiac Cathlab Equipments under one roof. This is used for conducting Angiograms, Angioplasty Stenting Procedures and also for Non-Surgical Closure of Holes, Defects and Pacemaker Implantation etc., Cardiovascular Disease is steadily increasing in India which was 2% in 1960, now it is touching 8%. At this rate by 2020, the highest number of cardiac cases including Heart Attack will be in India. The Cardiovascular Disease alone accounts for nearly 25% of total deaths in this country which is really alarming and 1/4th of Heart Attacks is seen below 40 years of age which is equally disturbing.

Cardiovascular Disease at present is no more a disease of rich and elite class; it is also increasing among poor people, villagers, slum dwellers and poor labourers. So the need is to adopt preventive measures across cross section of the society at its primitive stage. At the same time, it is the responsibility of the Medical Profession & the Hospital Sector to provide quality cardiac care at an affordable cost and free treatment in deserving poor.

Under the Government Sector, we have the Premier Institution in the State, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research with 640 beds exclusively for cardiac care. This is the largest single centre heart care destination in South East Asia.

During the year 2013, Institute has conducted the Procedures as follows:

  • 23933 Cathlab procedures were performed (Highest in the Country)
  • 14034 Angiograms
  • 1455 Mitral Valvuloplasties (Highest in the World)
  • 5096 Angioplasties (One of the Highest volume in the Country)
  • 3,000 Bypass & Valve Replacement Surgeries
  • 180350 Echo-Cardiograms (Highest in the World)
  • 33338 In-Patients were treated, Out of which 20,000 were treated at subsidized cost
  • Three Lakh Fifty four thousand three hundred and three (354303) Out Patients were treated

Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research is also running the Country’s biggest DM Cardiology Post Graduation Course with annual intake of 21 seats, 12 Seats in M.Ch. Surgery and 8 Seats in Cardiac Anaesthesia which provides more number of Cardiologists / Cardiac Surgeons and Cardiac Anesthetists, so that they can go to District Places which helps to provide cardiac care to the patients even in distant areas across the nation.

Sri Jayadeva Institute of Caridovascular Sciences and Research is providing free treatment for Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe Patients under SCP/TSP Scheme.

During the year 2013, 15 Interventional Cardiologists underwent training at the Institute from France, Argentina, USA, Middle East, Ireland, UK, China, Vietnam, England etc.,

Institute is conducting Open Heart Surgeries on Overseas Patients viz. Pakistan, Malaysia, Bangladesh, England, Kenya, Indonesia etc., Recently Five Infants from Indonesia underwent Open Heart Surgeries at our Institute in collaboration with Rotary International District, Bangalore at an affordable cost.

The Institute has opened its branch in Mysore with 110 bed capacity during the year 2010 to provide cardiac care facilities for the benefit of the people of that region. At present we are building an independent 350 bedded Jayadeva Hospital Complex at Mysore at a cost of Rs. 140.00 Crores. The Work has started a week ago and it is proposed to be completed within 2 years time.

Another Unit is functioning at ESIC-MH Complex, Rajajinagar since 2012 to cater to the needs of the Labour Class and we are conducting Angioplasties and Open Heart Surgeries in that centre also. A Well Equipped Cardiac Centre is already established in Hubli Medical College and also at OPEC Hospital, Raichur for the benefit of the patients in that region.

Providing Quality Health care to a common man is Government’s objective and responsibility. Hence the Government has introduced various Health Schemes to provide Cashless treatment for the poor people, such as “Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Yojane” (VAST) for Below Poverty Line Patients which provides cashless treatment. Annually 6000 Cardiac Procedures are done under this Scheme.

The “Yeshasvini Scheme” for the farmers coming under Co-operative sectors is providing health care services. Earlier the Yeshasvini beneficiaries were reimbursed only for the Procedural / Operational Charges but the patients were paying towards the implants such as Stents / Valves / Pacemakers / Devices etc., From October 2013, the Government has further strengthened the Yeshasvini Scheme by including all these implants under the Yeshasvini Package, so that the patients need not pay anything towards these implants. Annually 10000 Cardiac Procedures are done under Yeshasvini Scheme.

Government has introduced “Jyothi Sanjeevini Scheme” for the benefit of Government Employees which includes 449 Procedures.

Institute has established a “Poor Patient Fund” with the support of Philanthropists, Charitable Organisations, Cash rich Public Sector Organisations, Banks and out of Internal Resource Savings. Interest generated out of generous corpus fund is being utilized for the treatment of poor patients. “No needy patient will go untreated because of poor financial condition.”

This is the only Institution in the Country having Seven (7) Cardiac Cathlab Equipments under one roof. During the last 6-7 years, Institute has achieved and recorded 300% overall growth, providing Quality cardiac care treatment to all sections of society.

Smt. B. Jayashree, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) has contributed Rs. 70.00 Lakhs towards the Echo Cardiography Equipment and Canara Bank has contributed Rs. 1.25 Crores towards the Establishment of Cardiac Cathlab Facility.

Dr. Sharan Prakash R Patil, Hon’ble Minister for Medical Education, Smt.B.Jayashree, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Dr.K.S.Ravindranath, Vice-Chancellor, RGUHS, Sri. N. Sivasailam, IAS, Principal Secretary, HFW (Medical Education) & Sri. R.K. Dubey, Chairman & Managing Director, Canara Bank were the Chief Guests on this occasion. Sri.
